“In summer, the song sings itself.” ~ William Carlos Williams
On Friday June 30th the sky of Chicago looked like an angry sea. Clouds appeared more like sloped swells rolling headlong. It was a variety of storm we had never experienced before in our lives. The wind churned and howled around us and we watched in awe and fear as this violent looking anomaly bowled thru our lives.
We later discovered this storm to be called a “Derecho” or a “land hurricane”. From our current Midwest home all the way to our home in Baltimore this storm tore through people’s lives causing havoc and destruction. And as we contemplated this rare occurrence we couldn’t help but feel cleansed by the simplicity of its spirit. In Spanish the word “derecho” can be roughly translated as straight ahead. We couldn’t help but look at how certain this storm was of its purpose. How perfectly it utilized its elements to be so potent. It was a fitting end and beginning to a great many thoughts, hopes and pursuits happening with The Great American Canyon Band these days.
We would like to first say how thankful we’ve been for the support our fans have shown and continue to show us. We only hope to continue writing, recording and releasing songs that live up to the standards you have demanded we set for ourselves.
This month there will be two “middle of the country” opportunities to come share in this experience of playing music together. The dates and venues are.
- Tuesday July 10th @ Subterranean – 2011 W. North Ave Chicago IL 60647
- Saturday July 21st @ The Sh*tty Barn Session – 506 East Madison St. Spring Green WI 53588
In other news we have made available a FREE 4 song EP on our Bandcamp page. Our music is also now available on Spotify and iTunes . You are our best ambassadors so please let anyone you may think would enjoy the music know about these outlets as well.
We are very excited about our Blog! It’s a place we post lyrics, shows, music, and just a lot of everyday thoughts, pictures and artwork that move us in one way or another. We do our best to update it daily so check back often.
Lastly we’d like to discuss our Facebook community. We feel that there has been a large number of changes within the confines of this social media construct that do not in any way benefit you the fan. The most important being that our posts no longer reach everyone who has “liked” our page. What this means to you is that every time thegacb posts a link for a free download, or a new show, or just a random thought that seemed worth sharing; you will not necessarily recieve that information. We give our music away for free. and believe that in order to grow our fan base we want as many people as possible listening and passing on everything that they can in regards to thegacb. So in an effort to give the power back to you in this community we have decided to take a new approach to Facebook. Our aim is to make it as interactive as possible. This means that if you want to help us spread the word regarding this band and in the process receive early access to free downloads, shows, merch, whatever else we can think of in the future, then email us at
greatamericancanyonband@gmail.com
Ask to be an administrator on our Facebook page.
In return we only ask that you keep listening and by doing this YOU will continue to spread the work and word of this band on it’s journey.
Be well out there. It is long and winding road with many peaks and valleys, but with a song in our hearts and a dance in our souls, lets all keep moving forward with a smile.
We promise if you do.
Be well, thgacb
